While the Census said Southhold, the families were on Shelter Island.Shelter Island is about 12 square miles, in Peconic Bay between Northand South Fork at Long Island's east end. The smallest of Long Islands towns.
At the age of 50 he emigrated to New Milford. His brothers Allen (Polly), William (Julia) and half-brother Benjamin (Cynthia) arrived later.
LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF OLIVER TENNANT
I, Oliver Tennant of the township of New Milford in the County of Susquehanna and the State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind and memory, dohereby make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form, following, to wit. I give and bequeath unto my son Oliver Tennant,Junior the sum of five dollars to be paid out of my estate, and to my son Wm. Tennant, one third of my real estate. Beginning at the north eastcorner of my land and running south west forty six rods. Also beginningon the north west corner and moving south west forty six rods, thence across my farm, this line running back with my north line. (or north westline). And to my grandson Julian Tennant the remainder of my real estate. Also I direct my executor, herein after named, shall pay to my four daughters to wit.Hannah Aldrich, wife of Timothy Aldrich. Abby, wife of Robertson Lewis, Meribah, wife of Thurston Lewis and Nancy Lewis shall, receive the sum of one hundred and twenty dollars out of my Estate to be divided equally among them. Share and share alike and that Nancy Lewis shall, have the use of my dwelling house as long as she shall remain single, with the privilege of fire wood. Also I direct my household furnitureshall be equally divided among my named daughters. Also I direct that my son Wm.Tennant shall pay toward the above named sum bequeathed to my daughters, Forty dollars, that my grandson JulianTennant shall pay the sum of Eighty dollars and the above named sums of money shall not be called for until two years after my death. AlsoI direct that my stock shall be disposed of as soon after my death as convenient & the proceeds to apply to the payments of my debts, and I do hereby appoint my sons Oliver &Wm. Tennant, Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand & seal this Fourteenth day of May A.D. One Hundred and EightyHundred and Forty-Four.

Susquehanna County: On this eleventh day of June A. D. 1844 beforeme Hiram Finch Registrar for the probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the County of Susquehanna, appeared Francis Moxley and Gurdon Moxley the subscribing witnesses, of the within Will, who being duly sworn, did say that they were present and saw and heard OliverTennant, the testator of Writing as and for this Testament and last Will, and that the time of so doing, he was of sound and disposing mind.
