Considered a Vietnam vet, even though not serving on their shores,
Stanley holds a very esteemed designation of having the Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon with the
Operational Distinguishing Device; Silver Letter "O" for his station's work on one of the largest oil
spills of that era on the Saginaw River. Stanley also received a verbal commendation for life-saving.
