While the Census said Southhold, the families were on Shelter Island.Sh elter Island is about 12 square miles, in Peconic Bay between Northand S outh Fork at Long Island's east end. The smallest of Long Islands towns.

At the age of 50 he emigrated to New Milford. His brothers Allen (Polly ), William (Julia) and half-brother Benjamin (Cynthia) arrived later.

LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF OLIVER TENNANT

I, Oliver Tennant of the township of New Milford in the County of Susqu ehanna and the State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and f orm, following, to wit. I give and bequeath unto my son Oliver Tennant, Junior the sum of five dollars to be paid out of my estate, and to my so n Wm. Tennant, one third of my real estate. Beginning at the north east corner of my land and running south west forty six rods. Also beginning on the north west corner and moving south west forty six rods, thence ac ross my farm, this line running back with my north line. (or north west line). And to my grandson Julian Tennant the remainder of my real estate . Also I direct my executor, herein after named, shall pay to my four da ughters to wit.Hannah Aldrich, wife of Timothy Aldrich. Abby, wife of Ro bertson Lewis, Meribah, wife of Thurston Lewis and Nancy Lewis shall, re ceive the sum of one hundred and twenty dollars out of my Estate to be d ivided equally among them. Share and share alike and that Nancy Lewis sh all, have the use of my dwelling house as long as she shall remain singl e, with the privilege of fire wood. Also I direct my household furniture shall be equally divided among my named daughters. Also I direct that m y son Wm.Tennant shall pay toward the above named sum bequeathed to my d aughters, Forty dollars, that my grandson JulianTennant shall pay the su m of Eighty dollars and the above named sums of money shall not be calle d for until two years after my death. AlsoI direct that my stock shall b e disposed of as soon after my death as convenient & the proceeds to app ly to the payments of my debts, and I do hereby appoint my sons Oliver & Wm. Tennant, Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness w hereof I have here unto set my hand & seal this Fourteenth day of May A. D. One Hundred and EightyHundred and Forty-Four.

Susquehanna County: On this eleventh day of June A. D. 1844 beforeme Hi ram Finch Registrar for the probate of Wills and granting Letters of Adm inistration in and for the County of Susquehanna, appeared Francis Moxle y and Gurdon Moxley the subscribing witnesses, of the within Will, who b eing duly sworn, did say that they were present and saw and heard Oliver Tennant, the testator of Writing as and for this Testament and last Wil l, and that the time of so doing, he was of sound and disposing mind.
